HISTORY
Steeped in tradition and nestled in Alpharetta, a private enclave of North Atlanta, The Golf Club of Georgia provides a standard of excellence enjoyed by few private clubs. Established in 1991, the Club has made an impressive statement both competitively and through its course conditions, consistently recognized as one of the finest 36-hole golf clubs in the country.
The Club Through the Years
1991
The Lakeside Course, designed by Arthur Hills, won Golf Digest's prestigious "Best New Private Course in America" award.
1993
The Creekside course, also designed by Arthur Hills, opened for play. The Creekside course was also designed by Arthur Hills with more recent refinements by Bob Cupp. For years, this course has consistently been rated among the "Top 20 Courses" in Georgia by Golf Digest.
1995
The Club was the site of the Senior PGA Tour's Nationwide Championship. This event was televised by ESPN and won by Hall of Famer Hale Irwin in its final two years. In the following five years, the Club also hosted the Georgia Amateur Championship, U.S. Open Sectional Qualifying and the NCAA East Regional Championship. Hale Irwin (below), won the final two titles of the PGA TOUR Champions at The Golf Club of Georgia in 1999 and 2000.
1996
Georgia Tech Men's Golf began calling The Golf Club of Georgia their home course. PGA TOUR Players Stewart Cink, David Duval, Matt Kuchar, Chesson Hadley, Ollie Schniederjans, and others began their collegiate careers on our premier courses.
1998
The Golf Club of Georgia began hosting the Georgia Cup, an 18-hole charity match between the reigning United States Amateur Champion and British Amateur Champion. We continue the tradition of hosting The Georgia Cup each spring.
2006
The Golf Club of Georgia began hosting The United States Collegiate Invitational featuring the nation's top college golf teams. We continue to host this prestigious event every fall.
2015
Renowned Golf Course Architect & Designer Bob Cupp began enhancing the Creekside Course after a $3 million renovation. Upon completion, Cupp made improvements on the Lakeside Course which reopened in March 2016.
2016
The Golf Club of Georgia reopened after a $40M revitalization project to the clubhouse.
2017
For 2017-18, Golf Digest rated the Lakeside Course No. 13 Best in State, and the Creekside Course No. 18. Both courses have been consistently ranked among the Top 20 Best Courses in Georgia for many years. Only nine (9) Atlanta-based courses made the list in 2017-18 and The Golf Club of Georgia possesses two of them! Lakeside No. 14 (left) and Creekside No. 11 (right) are shown below.
In addition, a new Driving Range, short game areas, putting green and Executive Par 3 course debuts.
2018
On May 15th, 2018, The Cupp Golf Academy held it's official opening. The Cupp Golf Academy features several advanced technologies meant to improve your golf game including RoboGolfPro, one of only 17 teaching devices in the U.S. and only one available in the state of Georgia. The Cupp Academy is named after Bob Cupp who was a renowned golf course architect, designing over 250 golf courses worldwide. Bob is responsible for the course design you see today.
